The best resource to check out is the National Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA) , an organization of mystery shopping companies. Check out their listing of shopping assignments by country and by state from member companies. Some of the listings may be outdated, but the companies listed in their database are usually the biggest companies in the industry and most importantly, legitimate. Companies are accepted as members of the association only if they have been in existence for two years and they can submit proof of business existence. Make a list of these companies and check out their requirements to be a mystery shopper.

Yes, I called on it. They want you to pay them a fee for a list of places that need mystery shoppers. It felt like a scam the way they insisted on me giving a credit card number so I opted out. They did harass me by phone for a bout a week after to convince me to join and I threatened to call the police and the calls stopped. I can not say all are that way but be careful.

I know the feeling, I finally found a place called Service Evaluation Concepts..no fee and I have actually done shops for them and received payment. Just go to and click on “becoming a ba” (business analyst) Good luck
